Important update regarding Indian Standard applicable to all existing Licence holders/ New applicants/ manufacturers/ importers/ product sellers for the Copper Products (Copper Wire Rods for Electrical Applications) (Quality Control) Order, 2023.

OVERVIEW
The Ministry of Commerce and Industry has enacted the Copper Products (Quality Control) Order, 2023, which will become effective six months from the date of publication in the Official Gazette.
Mandatory adherence to the Indian Standard 12444:2020 (Copper Wire Rods for Electrical Applications) is required for copper products. These items must bear the Standard Mark obtained through a license from the Bureau, following Scheme-1 of Schedule-II of the Bureau of Indian Standards (Conformity Assessment) Regulations, 2018.
Notably, this order does not apply to domestically manufactured goods or articles designated for export.
Micro-enterprises, as defined in section 2 of the Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises Development Act, 2006, will comply with this order after twelve months from the notification date. Similarly, small enterprises, under the same Act, will adhere to the order after nine months after the notification date.
The certification and enforcement authority for Copper Products falls under the jurisdiction of the Bureau.
Any violation of this order will result in penalties as per the provisions of the Bureau of Indian Standards Act, 2016.
