BIS CERTIFICATION FOR STEEL FOR SPRING WASHER
IS 4072:1975

This standard specifies the specifications for steel in the form of plate, sheet, wire, or rod intended for use in the production of spring washers.

Steel for spring washers shall be of the six grades as specified in the standard. Steel must be produced using an open hearth, an electric furnace, or a combination of these methods. Each ingot must have a sufficient discard to ensure freedom from harmful piping, undue segregation, and other harmful defects.

Steel spring washers are commonly used in railway rolling stock, automobiles, and other engineering applications where a locking action against the rotation of the screwed or bolted assembly is required.

The chemical composition must adhere to the specified standard. The material's surface must be reasonably smooth and free of harmful defects. Decarburization should be kept to a bare minimum. A decarburization limit can be agreed upon between the purchaser and the supplier. The material must be delivered in the dimensions specified by the buyer.

Marking and packing:

The material shall be suitably identified with the manufacturer's name or trade mark, grade, cast number, or by such identification marks that the steel can be traced back to the cast from which it was made. A standard mark (ISI Mark) may also be applied to the product.

The Manufacturer must obtain a BIS license from the Bureau of Indian Standards to use a standard mark (ISI Mark). The Bureau grants a license based on a successful assessment of manufacturing infrastructure, production process, and quality control and testing capabilities during a visit to its manufacturing premises.

Conclusion:

If a product falls under the scope of the BIS Conformity Assessment Scheme, All the manufacturers, importers, and foreign entities must obtain BIS ISI Certification. The Bureau may cancel the License if the product fails to meet certification requirements.
