BIS UPDATES ON STANDARD AMENDMENT FOR BICYCLES- RETRO-REFLECTIVE DEVICES

Important update regarding Standard Amendments applicable to all existing Licence holders/New applicants/manufacturers/importers/product sellers for the product “Bicycles-Retro Reflective Devices” for the Indian market.
BIS Notification for Bicycles- Retro Reflective Devices (Quality Control) Amendment Order, 2021” (Mandatory BIS Certification & Certificate of Conformity)
OVERVIEW
"Bicycles- Retro Reflective Devices (Quality Control) Amendment Order, 2021, article through a gazette notification dated 24th December, 2021.
The Bureau of Indian Standard (Ministry Of Commerce And Industry) in India had come up with the regulation on Bicycles-Retro Reflective Devices IS/ISO 6742-2:2015 and clause 4.14 of IS 10613:2014 dated 7th July 2020. The Central Government, after consulting the Bureau of Indian Standards, was of the opinion that it is necessary or expedient to do so in the public interest, in the exercise of the powers conferred by sub-sections (1) and (2) of section 16 read with section 17 of the Bureau of Indian Standards Act, 2016 (11 of 2016). Under a licence and Certificate of Conformity from the Bureau of Indian Standards, the retro-reflective devices would have to comply with the Standard and bear the standard mark (BIS) and they cannot be produced, traded/sold, stocked and imported unless they bear ISI Mark under licence and Certificate of Conformity.
“The effected date of implementation of this order has been extended from 1st Jan 2022 to 1st Jan 2023”
Not applicable to the products or articles which are meant for export.
Retro Reflectors appear brighter which increase the visibility for the safety of the cyclist.
NOTE: Any person who violates the provisions of this order will be punished in accordance with the provisions of the said Act.
