BIS Quality Control Order for Animal Feeds and Feed Ingredients (Common salt and cattle licks for animal consumption)
The Ministry of Fisheries, Animal Husbandry and Dairying has issued a draft notification, known as the Animal Feeds and Feed Ingredients (Quality Control) Order, 2024. This order is proposed to take effect six months after its notification in the E-Gazette. Stakeholders are encouraged to submit their comments within 60 days of the notification.
Under this order, Animal Feeds and Feed Ingredients must adhere to the relevant Indian Standard IS 920 (Common salt and cattle licks for animal consumption) and carry the Standard Mark, issued under a license from the Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS), in accordance with Scheme-I of Schedule-II of the Bureau of Indian Standards (Conformity Assessment) Regulations, 2018.
The standards prescribe the requirements and the methods of sampling and tests for the ingredients used as livestock feed ingredients/supplements.
Common salt and cattle licks for animal consumption - Common salt for animal consumption shall be in the form of a crystalline solid; white or pale- pink or light grey in colour, free from visible contamination of clay, grit or extraneous adulterants and impurities. Cattle licks shall preferably be in the form of blocks or bricks and shall be free from visible contamination with clay, grit and extraneous adulterants or impurities.
The use of standard mark is governed by the provisions of Bureau of Indian Standards Act, 2016 and the Rules and Regulations made there under. Bureau of Indian Standards shall be the certifying and enforcing authority.
IMPOERTANT NOTES :
Any individual or entity found in violation of this order will be subject to penalties under the Bureau of Indian Standards Act, 2016.
