Important update regarding Indian Standard applicable to all existing Licence holders/ New applicants/ manufacturers/ importers/ product sellers for the Ropes and Cordages (Fibre ropes – Polypropylene split film, monofilament and multifilament (PP2) and polypropylene hightenacity multifilament (PP3) – 3-, 4-, 8- and 12-strand ropes) Quality Control Order, 2024.

OVERVIEW
It shall come into force from the date of its publication in the Official Gazette.
The Ministry of Textiles has issued a quality control order known as the Ropes and Cordages (Quality Control) Order, 2024. This Order will come into effect six months after its publication in the Official Gazette. For Small and Micro Enterprises, as defined under the Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises Development Act, 2006, it will come into effect nine months after the same publication date.
The Order applies to polypropylene fibre ropes, including split film, monofilament, multifilament (PP2), and high-tenacity multifilament (PP3) in 3-, 4-, 8-, and 12-strand configurations. It does not apply to these goods if they are intended for export.
Provided that the requirements of this Order shall not apply, for a period of twelve months from the date of publication of the Ropes and Cordages (Quality Control) Amendment Order, 2026, to Fibre Ropes—Polypropylene Split Film, Monofilament and Multifilament (PP2), and Polypropylene High-Tenacity Multifilament (PP3) 3-, 4-, 8-, and 12-strand ropes manufactured from recycled plastic waste.

These ropes must conform to Indian Standard IS 5175:2022 and bear the Standard Mark under a license from the Bureau of Indian Standards, in accordance with Scheme-I of Schedule-II of the Bureau of Indian Standards (Conformity Assessment) Regulations, 2018. The Bureau of Indian Standards will serve as the certifying and enforcing authority for these ropes.
