Dear Reader,

Important update regarding Indian Standard applicable to all existing Licence holders/ New applicants/ manufacturers/ importers/ product sellers for the Flashlight (Quality Control) Order, 2025.

OVERVIEW

From this date, flashlights must comply with Indian Standard 2083:2024 and bear the Standard Mark under a license from the Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) according to Scheme-1 of Schedule II of the Bureau of Indian Standards (Conformity Assessment) Regulations, 2018.

However, micro enterprises and small enterprises, as defined under the Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises Development Act, 2006 (No. 27 of 2006), will be required to meet these standards from the specified date as well.

This order does not apply to:

  1. Goods or articles manufactured domestically for export.
  2. A maximum of 50 units of flashlights imported annually for research and development purposes by flashlight manufacturers. These imported units must not be sold commercially and must be disposed of as scrap. Manufacturers are required to maintain a yearly record of these units and provide the record to the Central Government upon request.

The Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) will serve as the certifying and enforcing authority for compliance with this order.

IMPOERTANT NOTES :

Regarding penalties, anyone found in violation of this order will be subject to the provisions of the relevant Act.
