BIS QCO for the Laboratory Glassware (Graduated measuring cylinders)

OVERVIEW

The Ministry of Commerce and Industry has enacted a Quality Control Order titled the "Laboratory Glassware (Quality Control) Order, 2023."

This order takes effect six months from its publication in the Official Gazette. Goods or articles falling under the category of Laboratory Glassware are required to comply with the corresponding Indian Standard 878:2008 (Laboratory glassware - Graduated measuring cylinders) and bear the Standard Mark under a license from the Bureau of Indian Standards, as outlined in Scheme-1 of Schedule-II of the Bureau of Indian Standards (Conformity Assessment) Regulations, 2018.

Certain exemptions are outlined in the order. It does not apply to goods or articles manufactured domestically for export.

Furthermore, for micro-enterprises and small enterprises, as defined in clauses (h) and (m) respectively of Section 2 of the Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises Development Act, 2006 (27 of 2006), the order comes into force twelve months and nine months from the date of publication, respectively.

The Bureau of Indian Standards is designated as the certifying and enforcing authority for goods or articles falling under the category of Laboratory Glassware.

Any individual found contravening the provisions of this order is subject to punishment under the Bureau of Indian Standards Act, 2016.

This comprehensive framework ensures the quality and standards compliance of Laboratory Glassware in the interest of public safety and industry standards.

Implementation Dates: The order becomes effective six months from publication in the Official Gazette.
