Dear Reader,
Important update regarding Indian Standard applicable to all existing Licence holders/ New applicants/ manufacturers/ importers/ product sellers for the Chains and Sprockets (Quality Control) Order, 2025.
BIS QCO for Chains and Sprockets (Motor cycle chains)
OVERVIEW
It shall come into force from the date of its publication in the
Official Gazette.
This Order applies to the goods or articles classified as Chains and
Sprockets, which shall conform to the specifications outlined in the
Indian Standard IS 11740: 2014, titled:
“Motor cycle chains.”
All such goods or articles must bear the Standard Mark under a license from the Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS), in accordance with Scheme–I of Schedule–II of the Bureau of Indian Standards (Conformity Assessment) Regulations, 2018.
Implementation Timeline:
- General Manufacturers (other than Micro and Small Enterprises): Compliance required within 6 months from the date of publication of this Order.
- Small Enterprises: Compliance required within 9 months from the date of publication.
- Micro Enterprises: Compliance required within 12 months from the date of publication.
This Order shall not apply to goods or articles manufactured
domestically solely for export.
The Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) shall act as the certifying
and enforcing authority for the goods or articles covered under
this Order, namely Chains and Sprockets.
Any person who violates the provisions of this Quality Control
Order shall be liable for punishment under the provisions of the
Bureau of Indian Standards Act, 2016.
