OVERVIEW
The Ministry of Textiles introduces the "Geo Textiles (Quality Control) Amendment Order, 2022," slated to be effective from January 1, 2024. This amendment is designed to refine and strengthen the existing quality control framework for geo textiles, ensuring enhanced standards within the industry.
This order is specifically applicable to goods or articles falling under the category of Polymeric strip or geostrip used as soil reinforcement in retaining structures, excluding those intended for export.
To ensure compliance with established standards, the specified goods or articles must adhere to Indian Standard IS 17372:2020 (Geosynthetics - Polymeric strip or geostrip used as soil reinforcement in retaining structures - Specification) and bear the Standard Mark. Manufacturers are required to obtain a license from the Bureau, following Scheme-I of Schedule-II to the Bureau of Indian Standards (Conformity Assessment) Regulations, 2018.
The Bureau is designated as both the certifying and enforcing authority for the specified goods or articles, namely Polymeric strip or geostrip used as soil reinforcement in retaining structures. Non-compliance with this order is subject to penalties in accordance with the provisions outlined in the Bureau of Indian Standards Act, 2016 (11 of 2016).
This regulatory measure aims to uphold the quality and standards of Geo Textiles, specifically addressing Polymeric strip or geostrip used as soil reinforcement in retaining structures, fostering safety and reliability in the industry.
