UPDATES ON BIS CERTIFICATION FOR POLYPHOSPHORIC ACID

Important update regarding mandatory BIS certification requirements applicable to manufacturer/importers/sales of product “Polyphosphoric Acid” for Indian market. Ministry of Chemicals and Petrochemicals and Bureau of Indian Standards has issued an order called Polyphosphoric Acid (Quality Control) Order, 2021.
Notification of Quality Control Order for Polyphosphoric Acid (Mandatory BIS Certification)
OVERVIEW
"Polyphosphoric Acid IS 17439: 2020” (Quality Control) Order, 2021" issued through a gazette notification dated 24-December-2021, by the Ministry of Chemicals & Petrochemicals in India.
Under section 16 of the Bureau of Indian Standards Act, 2016 (11 of 2016), the Central Government, after consulting the Bureau of Indian Standards, is of the opinion that it is mandatory to obtain BIS Certification for product “Polyphosphoric Acid IS 17439:2020” and it is necessary to do so for the public health and interest.
“Polyphosphoric Acid” under a licence from the Bureau of Indian Standard should carry the Standard Mark as per Scheme-II of Schedule-II of the Bureau of Indian Standards (Conformity Assessment) Regulations, 2018.
Any person who contravenes the provisions of this order shall be punishable under the provisions of the Bureau of Indian Standards Act, 2016.
Mandatory BIS Certification is required for the product to be manufactured, stored, imported and sold in India.
NOTE: The provisions of this Order do not apply to products or articles intended for export.
