Important update regarding Indian Standard applicable to all existing Licence holders/ New applicants/ manufacturers/ importers/ product sellers for Footwear made from Leather and other Materials (Safety Boots for Miners) (Quality Control) Order, 2024.
BIS QCO for Footwear made from Leather and other Materials (Safety Boots for Miners)
OVERVIEW
The Ministry of Commerce and Industry has issued the "Footwear made from Leather and other Materials (Quality Control) Order, 2024," which will come into effect from August 1, 2024.
According to this order, Safety Boots for Miners must adhere to Indian Standard IS 3976:2018, specifically the Safety Boots for Miners- Specification, and bear the Standard Mark under a license from the Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) as per Scheme-I of Schedule-II of Bureau of Indian Standards (Conformity Assessment) Regulations, 2018.
However, the order does not apply to goods or articles intended for export or micro and small manufacturing units as defined in the Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises Development Act, 2006.
Additionally, manufacturers certified by the BIS or those who have applied for certification prior to the commencement of this order may declare and sell their old stock of footwear products without the BIS Mark until June 30, 2025.
The Bureau of Indian Standards is designated as the certifying and enforcing authority for Safety Boots for Miners.
