Important update regarding Indian Standard applicable to all existing Licence holders/ New applicants/ manufacturers/ importers/ product sellers for Electrical Capacitors (Shunt Power Capacitors of the Non-Self - Healing Type for AC Systems) (Quality Control) Order, 2017.

OVERVIEW

The Ministry of Commerce and Industry has issued a quality control order known as the Electrical Capacitors (Quality Control) Order, 2017, which will be effective from February 1, 2018.

This order applies to electrical capacitors as defined in the Schedule annexed to the order.

Under this order, electrical capacitors must conform to the specified Indian Standard IS 13585 Part 1 Shunt Power Capacitors of the Non-Self - Healing Type for AC Systems having a Rated Voltage up to and Including 1000 V PART 1 GENERAL PERFORMANCE, TESTING AND RATING SAFETY REQUIREMENTS GUIDE FOR INSTALLATION AND OPERATION and bear the Standard Mark under a license from the Bureau of Indian Standards. The order prohibits the manufacture, import, storage, sale, or distribution of electrical capacitors that do not meet the specified standards and do not bear the Standard Mark.

Manufacturers of electrical capacitors must obtain a license from the Bureau for the use of the Standard Mark. Regular production of electrical capacitors can only commence after obtaining a valid license from the Bureau.

The appropriate authority, as defined in the order, may require information from persons engaged in the manufacture, import, storage, sale, or distribution of electrical capacitors. They also have the power to inspect premises, seize sub-standard electrical capacitors, and issue directions to ensure compliance with the order.

Samples of electrical capacitors bearing the Standard Mark may be tested in recognized laboratories to ascertain whether they meet the specified standards.

Non-compliance with the order, including refusal to provide information or tampering with documents, may result in imprisonment or fines as prescribed by the order.

Overall, the order aims to regulate the quality of electrical capacitors in the market and ensure compliance with specified standards for safety and performance.
