BIS Quality Control Order for Hand Tools (Single-ended Open-jaw Adjustable Wrenches)

Dear Reader,
Important update regarding Indian Standard applicable to all existing Licence holders/ New applicants/ manufacturers/ importers/ product sellers for the Hand Tools (Single-ended Open-jaw Adjustable Wrenches) (Quality Control) Order, 2024.
Hand Tools (Ring Slugging Wrenches (Spanners))
OVERVIEW
This order shall come into effect six months after its publication in the Official Gazette. However, the following timelines apply for small and micro enterprises as defined in the Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises Development Act, 2006:
- For small enterprises: The order will take effect nine months after publication.
- For micro enterprises: The order will take effect twelve months after publication.
All hand tools must comply with Indian Standard IS 6149:1984 (Single-ended Open-jaw Adjustable Wrenches) and bear the Standard Mark issued under a license from the Bureau of Indian Standards, in accordance with Scheme-1 of Schedule-II of the Bureau of Indian Standards (Conformity Assessment) Regulations, 2018.

Please note that this order does not apply to domestically manufactured goods intended for export.
The Bureau of Indian Standards will serve as the certifying and enforcing authority for these hand tools. Any individual or entity found in violation of this order will face penalties under the Bureau of Indian Standards Act, 2016.
