Important update regarding Indian Standard applicable to all existing Licence holders/ New applicants/ manufacturers/ importers/ product sellers for Footwear made from Leather and other Materials (Leather safety boots and shoes - Specification for leather safety boots and shoes Part 2 for heavy metal industries) (Quality Control) Amendment Order, 2024.

OVERVIEW
The Ministry of Commerce and Industry has issued a new amendment to the Footwear made from Leather and other Materials (Quality Control) Order, 2024.
This amendment shall be known as the Footwear made from Leather and other Materials (Quality Control) Amendment Order, 2024, and will take effect from the date it is published in the official Gazette.
According to this order, leather safety boots and shoes must adhere to Indian Standard IS 1989(Part-2): 1986, specifically the Specification for leather safety boots and shoes Part 2 for heavy metal industries, and bear the Standard Mark under a license from the Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) as per Scheme-I of Schedule-II of Bureau of Indian Standards (Conformity Assessment) Regulations, 2018.
However, the order does not apply to goods or articles intended for export or micro and small manufacturing units as defined in the Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises Development Act, 2006.
Provided also that footwear without the Bureau of Indian Standards Mark, which was manufactured or imported before the commencement of this Order, may be sold, displayed, or offered for sale until July 31, 2026
The Bureau of Indian Standards is designated as the certifying and enforcing authority for leather safety boots and shoes.
