Dear Reader,

Important update regarding Indian Standard applicable to all existing Licence holders/ New applicants/ manufacturers/ importers/ product sellers for the Aluminium and Aluminium Alloy Products (Aluminium alloy tubes for irrigation purposes - welded tubes) (Quality Control) extension Order, 2026.

OVERVIEW

As per this Order, all Aluminium and Aluminium Alloy Products must comply with the requirements specified under Indian Standard IS 7092 (Part 1):1992. These products are required to bear the Standard Mark (ISI Mark) under a valid license issued by the Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) in accordance with Scheme-I of Schedule-II of the BIS (Conformity Assessment) Regulations, 2018.

However, the Order provides certain exemptions:

  • Products manufactured domestically for export purposes are exempt from the scope of this Order.
  • Micro and Small Enterprises (MSEs), as defined under the Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises Development Act, 2006, are required to comply with the applicable Indian Standard with immediate effect, while other enterprises must also ensure compliance as per the specified timeline mentioned in the Order.
  • Import of Aluminium and Aluminium Alloy Products up to 200 kilograms per year is permitted for research and development (R&D) purposes, subject to the following conditions:
    • Such imported products shall not be sold commercially and must be disposed of as scrap.
    • The manufacturer must maintain year-wise records of such imports and submit them to the Central Government on official letterhead, duly signed by an authorized signatory.

The Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) has been designated as the certifying and enforcement authority for these products.

Any person or entity found in violation of the provisions of this Order shall be subject to penalties under the Bureau of Indian Standards Act, 2016.

The certification and enforcement authority for Aluminium and Aluminium Alloy Products as specified in this Order is the Bureau of Indian Standards.

Any individual found in violation of the provisions of this Order will face penalties as per the Bureau of Indian Standards Act, 2016.
