BIS QCO for the Bottled Water Dispensers(MINISTRY OF COMMERCE AND INDUSTRY)

OVERVIEW

The Ministry of Commerce and Industry has released a Quality Control Order titled the Bottled Water Dispensers (Quality Control) Order, 2024. This Order will come into effect on the date it is published in the Official Gazette.

The order mandates that Bottled Water Dispensers must conform to Indian Standard 17681:2022 and bear the Standard Mark under a license from the Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) according to Scheme-1 of Schedule-II to the BIS (Conformity Assessment) Regulations, 2018.

Key implementation dates are as follows:

• General (excluding Micro and Small Enterprises): July 1, 2024
• Small Enterprises: October 1, 2024
• Micro Enterprises: January 1, 2025

Micro and small enterprises, as defined under the Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises Development Act, 2006, must comply with the standards from their respective specified dates.

Additionally, this Order does not apply to goods or articles manufactured domestically for export purposes.

The Bureau of Indian Standards will act as the certifying and enforcing authority for Bottled Water Dispensers. Any individual who violates the provisions of this Order will be subject to penalties under the Bureau of Indian Standards Act, 2016.

Implementation Dates: July 1, 2024
For micro and small enterprises, as defined under the Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises Development Act, 2006, the Order takes effect twelve months and nine months from the publication date, respectively.
