Dear Reader,
Important update regarding Indian Standard applicable to all existing Licence holders/ New applicants/ manufacturers/ importers/ product sellers for the Cast Iron Products (Cast iron/ductile won drainage pipes and pipe fittings for over-ground non-pressure pipeline socket and spigot Series) (Quality Control) Order, 2023.

OVERVIEW
The order mandates that all cast iron products must adhere to the corresponding Indian Standard 1729:2002 (Cast iron/ductile won drainage pipes and pipe fittings for over-ground non-pressure pipeline socket and spigot Series) and bear the Standard Mark, obtained through a license from the Bureau of Indian Standards, by Scheme-1 of Schedule-II of the Bureau of Indian Standards (Conformity Assessment) Regulations, 2018.
It is noteworthy that this order does not apply to domestically manufactured goods or articles intended for export.
The small enterprise and micro enterprise, as defined under the Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises Development Act, 2006 (27 of 2006), shall conform to such Indian Standards from the date specified.
Nothing in this Order shall apply to goods or articles manufactured domestically by an enterprise, registered with the Central Government in the Ministry of Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises under "Udyam portal" wherein the investment in plant and machinery or equipment at original cost does not exceed twenty-five lakh rupees and the turnover does not exceed two crore rupees for the previous financial year as certified by a Chartered Accountant.
Nothing in this Order shall apply to the goods or articles imported up to two hundred kilograms for the purpose of research and development by manufacturers of Cast Iron products per year with the condition that such imported goods and articles shall not be sold commercially and shall be disposed of as a scrap and the manufacturer shall maintain year-wise record of the imported goods or articles and furnish to the Central Government in its letter head duly signed by its authorised signatory.

The Bureau of Indian Standards has been designated as the certifying and enforcing authority for Cast Iron Products.
All stakeholders must comply with the specified standards and regulations to ensure the quality and conformity of cast iron products in the market.
IMPOERTANT NOTES :
Any violation of this order will incur penalties as per the provisions outlined in the Bureau of Indian Standards Act, 2016.
