BIS QCO for the Electrical Appliances For Skin or Hair Care

OVERVIEW

The Ministry of Commerce and Industry has recently introduced the "Electrical Appliances for Skin or Hair Care (Quality Control) Order, 2023."

This order, which may be referred to as the 2023 Quality Control Order, It shall become effective twelve months after the publication of this notification in the Official Gazette.

It mandates that all electrical appliances designed for skin and hair care must adhere to the corresponding Indian Standard 302 (Part 2/Sec 23): 2009 and bear the Standard Mark, which requires a license from the Bureau of Indian Standards in accordance with Scheme-1 outlined in Schedule-II to the Bureau of Indian Standards (Conformity Assessment) Regulations, 2018.

It's important to note that this order does not apply to goods or articles produced domestically but is intended for export.

Furthermore, for micro-enterprises, as defined in section 2 of the Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises Development Act, 2006, it takes effect eighteen months after the publication date. In the case of small enterprises, it comes into force after fifteen months from the date of publication.

The Bureau of Indian Standards will serve as the certifying and enforcing authority for products falling under the category of Electrical Appliances for Skin and Hair Care.
