BIS QCO for the Ethylene Oxide

OVERVIEW

The Department of Chemicals and Petrochemicals has released a notification concerning Ethylene Oxide, referred to as the "Ethylene Oxide (Quality Control) Order, 2023."

This order will take effect 181 days after its publication in the Official Gazette. It's important to note that this order does not apply to Ethylene Oxide goods or articles intended for export.

Goods or articles containing Ethylene Oxide must adhere to the relevant Indian Standard IS 5573:1984, which outlines the specifications for Ethylene Oxide. These products should also bear the Standard Mark, obtained through a license from the Bureau of Indian Standards as per Scheme-1 outlined in Schedule-2 of the Bureau of Indian Standards (Conformity Assessment) Regulations, 2018.

The certifying and enforcing authority responsible for Ethylene Oxide goods or articles is the Bureau of Indian Standards.

Regarding contraventions of this order, any individual who violates its provisions will be subject to penalties as specified in the relevant legislation.
