BIS QCO for the Plywood and Wooden Flush Door Shutters (Fire retardant plywood)

OVERVIEW

The Ministry of Commerce and Industry has recently issued a Quality Control Order titled the "Plywood and Wooden Flush Door Shutters (Quality Control) Order, 2024."

This order will take effect from the 28th of February, 2025.

However, for small enterprises defined under the Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises Development Act, 2006, it will come into force from the 28th of May, 2025, and for micro enterprises, it will be applicable from the 28th of August, 2025.

According to the order, Fire retardant plywood must adhere to the corresponding Indian Standard IS 5509:2021 and bear the Standard Mark under a license from the Bureau of Indian Standards, as per Scheme-1 of Schedule-II of the Bureau of Indian Standards (Conformity Assessment) Regulations, 2018.

It's important to note that this order does not apply to goods or articles manufactured domestically for export.

The Bureau of Indian Standards has been designated as the certifying and enforcing authority for Fire retardant plywood as specified in this order.

Any individual found contravening the provisions of this order will face penalties as per the Bureau of Indian Standards Act, 2016.
