Important update regarding Indian Standard applicable to all existing Licence holders/ New applicants/ manufacturers/ importers/ product sellers for the Steel and Steel Products (Heat-Treated Steels Alloy and Free-Cutting Steels — Ball and Roller Bearing Steels) (Quality Control) Order, 2023.

OVERVIEW

The Ministry of Steel has issued a Quality Control Order, known as the "Steel and Steel Products (Quality Control) Order, 2023."

This order will come into force on the date specified in the Official Gazette.

It is essential to note that this order applies to steel and steel products, with the exception of those intended for export.

Specifically, the product "(Heat-Treated Steels Alloy and Free-Cutting Steels — Ball and Roller Bearing Steels)" must adhere to the corresponding Indian Standards IS 17111: 2010 (ISO 683 - 17: 2014), with effect from the dates provided below. Furthermore, each consignment of Heat-Treated Steels Alloy and Free-Cutting Steel — Ball and Roller Bearing Steels must include a Mill Test Certificate bearing the Standard Mark.

The use of the Standard Mark is mandatory for all steel and steel products covered by this order, and it can only be used under a license from the Bureau, in accordance with Scheme–I of Schedule–II of the Bureau of Indian Standards (Conformity Assessment) Regulations, 2018.

In cases where steel and steel products are found to be sub-standard or defective, failing to meet the specified standards, they should be disposed of as scrap, following the testing and inspection scheme outlined by the Bureau of Indian Standards.

The Bureau will act as the certifying and enforcing authority for all matters related to the steel and steel products, goods, and articles specified in this order.

Any individual or entity found contravening any of the provisions of this order will be subject to penalties as per Section 29 of the Act.

Regarding amendments or revisions to Indian Standards, when the Bureau introduces any such changes, they will be incorporated into this order, effective from the date notified by the Bureau for this purpose.
