BIS QCO for the Miscellaneous Steel Products (High strength deformed stainless steel bars and wires for concrete reinforcement)

OVERVIEW

The Ministry of Commerce and Industry has issued a Quality Control Order titled the "Miscellaneous Steel Products (Quality Control) Order, 2023."

This order will come into effect six months from the date of its publication in the Official Gazette.

Under this order, goods or articles categorized as Miscellaneous Steel Products must adhere to the corresponding Indian Standard IS 16651:2017 for High strength deformed stainless steel bars and wires for concrete reinforcement. These products are required to bear the Standard Mark under a license from the Bureau of Indian Standards, as per Scheme-1 of Schedule-II of the Bureau of Indian Standards (Conformity Assessment) Regulations, 2018. Importantly, this order does not apply to goods or articles manufactured domestically for export purposes.

Regarding the timeline for compliance, micro enterprises and small enterprises, as defined in the Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises Development Act, 2006, will have different timelines for compliance. Micro enterprises will need to comply twelve months from the date of publication, while small enterprises will have nine months from the date of publication.

The Bureau of Indian Standards has been designated as the certifying and enforcing authority for the goods or articles covered under this order. Non-compliance with the provisions of this order will result in penalties under the Bureau of Indian Standards Act, 2016.
