Important update regarding Indian Standard applicable to all existing Licence holders/ New applicants/ manufacturers/ importers/ product sellers Polycarbonate (Quality Control) Amendment Order, 2024.

BIS Quality Control Amendment Order for the Polycarbonate

OVERVIEW

The Ministry of Chemicals and Fertilizers has issued a Polycarbonate (Quality Control) Amendment Order, 2024.

It shall come into force on the 12th day of March, 2025.

This order mandates that goods or articles of Polycarbonate must adhere to the corresponding Indian Standard 14434:1998. They should bear the Standard Mark under a license from the Bureau of Indian Standards, as per Scheme-I of Schedule-II of the Bureau of Indian Standards (Conformity Assessment) Regulations, 2018. Importantly, this order excludes goods or articles intended for export from its provisions.

The Bureau of Indian Standards is designated as the certifying and enforcing authority for Polycarbonate goods or articles.

Any individual found contravening the provisions of this order will be subject to punishment under the relevant Act.
