BIS QCO for the Steel and Steel Products (Stainless steel plate, sheet and strip – Specification)

OVERVIEW

The Ministry of Steel has issued the Steel and Steel Products (Quality Control) Amendment Order, 2026.
In the Steel and Steel Products (Quality Control) Order, 2024,

Under this Order, applicable to steel and steel products, specifically the Stainless steel plate, sheet and strip – Specification, domestically manufactured steel and steel products conforming to any other specification required by foreign buyers for export are exempted.

Each steel and steel product specified under this Order must adhere to the corresponding Indian Standards 6911: 2017 effective immediately upon implementation, and be accompanied by a Test Certificate with the Standard Mark issued by a certified manufacturer under the Bureau of Indian Standards.

Furthermore, goods and articles meeting the specifications must bear the Standard Mark under a license from the Bureau of Indian Standards in accordance with Scheme – I of Schedule – II to the Bureau of Indian Standards (Conformity Assessment) Regulations, 2018.

Serial No. 52 – IS 6911:2017, Stainless Steel Plate, Sheet and Strip – Specification As per the notification, the enforcement of the Indian Standards specified at Serial No. 52 of Schedule-I, along with the entries relating thereto, shall remain deferred and shall not be operative up to 31 March 2027 from the date of publication of the notification in the Official Gazette.

The Bureau of Indian Standards is designated as the certifying and enforcing authority for compliance with this Order.

Non-compliance with any provision of this Order is punishable under section 29 of the Bureau of Indian Standards Act, 2016 (11 of 2016).

Any amendments or revisions to the Indian Standards specified herein by the Bureau of Indian Standards shall be applicable to this Order from the date of publication by the Bureau.
