Important update regarding Indian Standard applicable to all existing Licence holders/ New applicants/ manufacturers/ importers/ product sellers for the Electrical Appliances for Domestic Water Heating (Stationary storage type electric water heaters) (Quality Control) Order, 2025.

OVERVIEW

According to this directive, all electrical appliances designed for domestic water heating must adhere to specific quality standard as defined in the Indian Standard which is 2082: 2018 (Stationary storage type electric water heaters). Furthermore, these products must display the Standard Mark, indicating compliance with these standards, and obtain a license from the Bureau of Indian Standards, following Scheme-1 as outlined in Schedule-II to the Bureau of Indian Standards (Conformity Assessment) Regulations, 2018.

However, it's important to note that this order does not apply to goods or articles manufactured within the country for export purposes.

Provided that micro enterprises and small enterprises, as defined under the Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises Development Act, 2006 (27 of 2006), shall comply with the specified Indian Standards from the date mentioned.

Additionally, it is clarified that this order shall not apply to a maximum of 200 units of goods or articles imported annually for research and development purposes by manufacturers of electric appliances used for domestic water heating. These imported goods and articles shall not be sold commercially and may only be disposed of as scrap. Manufacturers are required to maintain a year-wise record of these goods or articles and submit it to the Central Government."

The certification and enforcement authority responsible for overseeing compliance with this order is the Bureau of Indian Standards.

IMPOERTANT NOTES :

Any individual or entity found to be in violation of these provisions will be subject to penalties as prescribed by the Bureau of Indian Standards Act, 2016.

Implementation Dates:
For (general): 1st March, 2025
For (micro enterprises): 1st September, 2025
For (small enterprises): 1st June, 2025
