Important update regarding Indian Standard applicable to all existing Licence holders/ New applicants/ manufacturers/ importers/ product sellers for the Electrical Appliances for Domestic Water Heating (Stationary storage type electric water heaters) (Quality Control) Order, 2023.

OVERVIEW
The Ministry of Commerce and Industry has recently issued a Quality Control Order, formally titled as the "Electrical Appliances for Domestic Water Heating (Quality Control) Order, 2023." This order is scheduled to come into effect six months from its publication date in the Official Gazette.
According to this directive, all electrical appliances designed for domestic water heating must adhere to specific quality standard as defined in the Indian Standard which is 2082: 2018 (Stationary storage type electric water heaters). Furthermore, these products must display the Standard Mark, indicating compliance with these standards, and obtain a license from the Bureau of Indian Standards, following Scheme-1 as outlined in Schedule-II to the Bureau of Indian Standards (Conformity Assessment) Regulations, 2018.
However, it's important to note that this order does not apply to goods or articles manufactured within the country for export purposes.
There are specific timelines for the enforcement of this order concerning microenterprises and small enterprises, as defined by the Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises Development Act, 2006 (27 of 2006).
For micro-enterprises, the order will come into force twelve months from the date of its publication, while for small enterprises, it will take effect nine months from the date of publication.
The certification and enforcement authority responsible for overseeing compliance with this order is the Bureau of Indian Standards.
Any individual or entity found to be in violation of these provisions will be subject to penalties as prescribed by the Bureau of Indian Standards Act, 2016.
