BIS QCO for the Precision Roller and Bush Chains, Attachments, and Associated Chain Sprockets

OVERVIEW

The Ministry of Commerce and Industry introduces the "Precision Roller and Bush Chains, Attachments, and Associated Chain Sprockets (Quality Control) Order, 2023," effective six months from its publication in the Official Gazette.

Under this order, goods or articles categorized as Precision Roller and Bush Chains, Attachments, and Associated Chain Sprockets must comply with the prescribed standards, either Indian Standard IS 2403:2014 or ISO 606:2004 (Short-Pitch Transmission Precision Roller and Bush Chains, Attachments, and Associated Chain Sprockets).

To demonstrate adherence to these standards, products are required to bear the Standard Mark, obtainable through a license from the Bureau of Indian Standards as per Scheme-1 of Schedule-II of the Bureau of Indian Standards (Conformity Assessment) Regulations, 2018.

It is important to note that this order does not apply to goods or articles manufactured domestically for export. Additionally, micro-enterprises, as defined in the Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises Development Act, 2006, will comply within twelve months from the date of publication, while small enterprises will adhere within nine months.

The Bureau of Indian Standards is designated as both the certifying and enforcing authority for the specified goods or articles, namely Precision Roller and Bush Chains, Attachments, and Associated Chain Sprockets.

Stakeholders are urged to ensure compliance with these standards, as any violation of this order is subject to penalties under the provisions of the Bureau of Indian Standards Act, 2016.

This regulatory measure aims to enhance the quality and reliability of these products in the market.
