UPDATES FOR CHEMICALS QUALITY CONTROL AMENDMENT ORDER

Important update regarding mandatory BIS certification requirements applicable to manufacture/sales of product “Chemical and Petrochemical “for Indian market. Ministry of Chemicals and Petrochemicals has announced the proposal for quality control amendment for various chemical products which includes Ethylene Glycol, Ether, n-Butyl Acrylate, Phathalic Anhydride, Terephthalic Acid and Toluene.

Chemical and Petrochemical Products ( Quality Control Amendment) Order,2021 "for Chemical goods/article through a gazette notification dated 24th June 2021.

The Government of India and the Ministry of Chemical and Petrochemical in India have come up with the latest regulation on chemical and petrochemical products. There are 6 chemical products that are regulated as per the document, along with the implementation date and respective Indian standard. The Central government of India, after consulting the Bureau of Indian Standard (BIS), is of the opinion that it is necessary to register these chemicals with BIS for the sake of public health before 20th December 2021. If foreign manufacturers want to export their chemicals to India, then they should have acquired the licence to manufacture, selling and supply chemical products to India. Chemical manufactured should confirm Indian Standards for the use of ISI Standard Mark.

The government of India took this step as the chemical is impacting present and future generations as well as our environment.

Mandatory ISI mark certification is required for the product to be stored, imported and sold in India.

Implementation Dates: As per the notifications, the related goods/articles shall come under the mandatory BIS certification from dated 20th December, 2021.
