BIS CERTIFICATION FOR BORIC ACID
IS 10116:2015

In this competitive scenario, it isn't easy to survive in the market without a standard quality and certified product. BIS license may also be required to sell products in the Indian market.

To get BIS certification and produce a standard quality product, the manufacturer must ensure that their product must follow the specified Indian standard.

These standard covers specification requirements for all uses, except cosmetics.

Grades:

The materials are classified into 3 grades:

  1. Special quality (SQ): for use in capacitors, nuclear energy, electronics, foundries, and fire proofing of workman’s apparel.
  2. Technical (TECH): for use in glass, refractories, ceramics, paints, chemicals, dye intermediates, electroplating, adhesives, leather and enamel industries.
  3. Explosive

Special quality grade material must be in the form of granules, and the technical grade material must be in the form of granules, powder, crystals, or flakes. All grades must be odour-free, dirt-free, foreign matter-free, and impurity-free.

When tested according to the method prescribed, the material must meet the requirements specified in the standard.

TESTS

Different tests are applicable to different grades as specified in the Indian Standard. The test shall be done to determine the following in accordance with the method defined.

  • Test for boric acid
  • Moisture
  • Water-insoluble matter
  • Test for heavy metals
  • Test for iron content
  • Arsenic
  • Calcium
  • Sodium
  • Chloride
  • Sulphate
  • Phosphates

PACKING AND MARKING:

Packing and Marking shall be done in accordance with IS 10116:2015. Each container must bear the information as specified in the standard. The ISI mark must be applied to each container, provided that the product so marked meets all of the specification's requirements.
