BIS CERTIFICATION FOR CARBON STEEL SHEETS & STRIPS
IS 17494:2020

In this competitive scenario, it isn't easy to survive in the market without a standard quality and certified product. BIS license may also be required to sell products in the Indian market.

To get BIS certification and produce a standard quality product, the manufacturer must ensure that their product must follow the specified Indian standard.

Let’s take a closer look at Electrogalvanized Hot rolled and Cold reduced Carbon Steel Sheets and Strips.

IS 17404:2020 covers Electrogalvanized Hot rolled and Cold reduced Carbon Steel Sheets and Strips. This standard specifies the requirements for hot rolled and cold reduced carbon steel sheets and strips coated with zinc by the electrolytic process. The product can be coated on one or both surfaces, with the coating masses on the two surfaces being equal or different.

The base metal of electrogalvanized hot rolled carbon steel sheet and strip must conform to IS 1079 or IS 5986. The base metal of electrogalvanized cold reduced carbon steel sheet and strip must conform to IS 513 (Part 1) or IS 513 (Part 2). Zinc used for galvanizing must meet any of the grades specified in IS 13229.

A sample of differentially coated material can be tested to cover both equally coated and single-surface coated material. A sample of equally coated material may be tested to cover single-surface coated material. Electrogalvanized Hot Rolled and Cold Reduced Carbon Steel Sheets and Strips must also meet the standard's requirements.

TESTS

The following test shall be done in accordance with the method specified.

  • Coating Mass Test
  • Coating Adherence Test
  • Dimensions, Shape and Tolerance Test

Packing and Marking:

Packing and marking must be done as per the requirements of IS 17404:2020. The standard mark (ISI mark) shall be incorporated on the top of each coil or package of the sheet, provided that the product thus marked meets the requirements of the specification.
