BIS CERTIFICATION FOR COLD ROLLED STAINLESS STEEL STRIPS

In this competitive scenario, it isn't easy to survive in the market without a standard quality and certified product. BIS license may also be required to sell products in the Indian market.
To get BIS certification and produce a standard quality product, the manufacturer must ensure that their product must follow the specified Indian standard.
Let’s take a closer look at IS 9294:1979 for Cold Rolled Stainless Steel Strips for Razor Blades.
This standard specifies the requirements for cold rolled stainless steel strips to manufacture razor blades.
Strips shall be made from steel produced through an electric process. Surface defects such as scales, rust, pitting, cracked edges, and so on must be avoided in cold rolled steel strips. Slit edges on cold rolled steel strip must be reasonably free from burrs.
1387:1967 specifies the general requirements for the supply of cold rolled stainless steel strips. Cold rolled stainless steel strip shall be supplied in coil form, annealed, and light rolled condition.
Cold rolled steel strips shall conform to the requirements specified in the standard. Hardness of cold rolled steel strip shall be tested using a microhardness tester. A laboratory shall be adequately equipped and staffed, and where various tests shall be performed in accordance with the methods specified in the standard.

- Chemical composition
- Product analysis
- Hardness test
- Freedom from defects
- Edge condition
Packing and Marking:
Cold rolled steel strip coils shall be packed appropriately to avoid rusting and damage during transit. Each coil of strips shall be marked with the size, cast number, manufacturer's name, or trademark. The material may also be marked with a standard mark (ISI Mark).
The manufacturer must obtain a BIS license for cold rolled stainless steel strips for razor blades from the Bureau of Indian Standards to use a standard mark (ISI Mark). BIS will grant a license after successfully assessing manufacturing infrastructure, processes, quality control, and testing capabilities during a visit to manufacturing premises.

Conclusion:
If a product falls under the scope of the BIS Conformity Assessment Scheme, All the manufacturers, importers, and foreign entities must obtain BIS ISI Certification. The Bureau may cancel the License if the product fails to meet certification requirements.
