BIS CERTIFICATION FOR COLD ROLLED STEEL STRIPS
IS 9476:1980

This standard specifies the specifications for cold-rolled high carbon steel strips used in the manufacture of razor blades.

Strips must be made from steel produced by open-hearth, electric furnace, basic oxygen, duplex process, or a combination of these processes. Cold rolled steel strips must have a dull and very fine surface finish. IS 8910:1978 specifies the general requirements for the supply of cold-rolled high carbon steel strips. Cold-rolled steel strips must be supplied in annealed and rerolled conditions.

TESTS

Tests shall be carried out in accordance with the method specified.

• Chemical composition
• Hardness test
• Microstructure
• Freedom from defects
• Edge condition
• Dimension and tolerances

Packing and Marking:

Cold-rolled strip coils must be properly packed to prevent rusting and damage during transit. Each coil of the strip must be labelled with the size, cast number, manufacturer's name, or trade mark. The material may also be marked with a standard mark.

Manufacturers must obtain a BIS license from the Bureau of Indian Standards to use a standard mark (ISI Mark). The Bureau grants a license based on a successful assessment of manufacturing infrastructure, production process, and quality control and testing capabilities during a visit to its manufacturing premises.

Conclusion:

If a product falls under the scope of the BIS Conformity Assessment Scheme, All the manufacturers, importers, and foreign entities must obtain BIS ISI Certification. The Bureau may cancel the License if the product fails to meet certification requirements.
