BIS CERTIFICATION FOR COMPOUNDED CATTLE FEEDS

In this competitive scenario, it isn't easy to survive in the market without a standard quality and certified product. BIS license may also be required to sell products in the Indian market.

To get BIS certification and produce a standard quality product, the manufacturer must ensure that their product must follow the specified Indian standard.
Let's take a closer look at IS 2052:2009 for compounded feeds.

Compounded feeds for cattle are covered under IS 2052: 2009. This standard specifies the requirements and the sampling and testing methods for compounded cattle feeds for buffaloes, cattle, and working bullocks.

Compounded cattle feeds shall be of the following two types:

  • Type I
  • Type II

Compound cattle feeds must be in the form of a meal, cubes, or pellets. The manufacturer shall ensure that the feed is free from harmful constituents, metallic fragments, and adulterants. The ingredients specified in the standard must be used in the production of compounded cattle feeds. The material shall also meet the requirements outlined in the standard. When urea is incorporated, the proportion must not exceed 1% by mass.

Tests

The following tests shall be carried out as prescribed in the standard.

  • Ingredients test
  • Test for the chemical composition of ingredients
  • Estimation of vitamin D3
  • Estimation of vitamin E
  • Estimation of Aflatoxin B1

A laboratory shall be adequately maintained, in which the various tests shall be carried out according to the methods specified in the standard.

Each bag of compounded feeds shall be marked with information as specified in the standard. Each bag of compounded feeds shall also be marked with the ISI certification mark, and packaging and marking must be done in accordance with IS 2052:2009. The Manufacturer must obtain a BIS license from the Bureau of Indian Standards to use a standard mark (ISI Mark). The BIS grants a license based on a successful assessment of manufacturing infrastructure, quality control and testing capabilities, and production process.

If a product falls under the scope of the BIS Conformity Assessment Scheme, All the manufacturers, importers, and foreign entities must obtain BIS ISI Certification. The Bureau may cancel the License if the product fails to meet certification requirements.
