IS 14708:1999 covers Ethyl Acrylate. The Bureau of Indian Standards adopted this Indian Standard after the Petroleum, Coal, and Related Products Division Council approved the draft finalized by the Organic Chemicals Sectional Committee.

This standard specifies the requirements and the sampling and testing methods for ethyl acrylate. The ethyl acrylate must meet the requirements specified in the standard. Ethyl acrylate is created by esterifying acrylic acid or acrylonitrile. It is widely used in the production of leather auxiliaries, paper coating, and other products. It is also used as a textile sizing agent and a water-based kerosene substitute thickener. Ethyl acrylate is a combustible liquid, and it is vapours that can form from explosive mixtures with air and are extremely irritating.

Packing and Marking:

The following information must be legibly marked on the material:

  1. The name of the material
  2. The indication of the source of manufacture
  3. Batch number, in code
  4. Net mass of the material

Packing shall be done in accordance with the terms agreed upon between the purchaser and the supplier. The Standard Mark (ISI Mark) may also be applied to the containers. Conforming to the requirements of this standard, the product(s) may be certified under the provisions of the Bureau of Indian Standards Act, 2016 and the Rules and Regulations framed thereunder. The Manufacturer must obtain a BIS license from the Bureau of Indian Standards to use a standard mark (ISI Mark). The BIS grants a license based on a successful assessment of manufacturing infrastructure, quality control, testing capabilities, and production process.
