BIS CERTIFICATION FOR FINNED TYPE HEAT EXCHANGER
IS 11329:2018

Finned type heat exchanger for room air conditioner is covered under IS 11329:2018. This standard specifies the general requirements and method of testing for finned type heat exchangers used to manufacture all types and sizes of air conditioners. The design, construction, inspection, and tasting of finned type heat exchangers for heating and cooling applications in room air conditioners are covered by this standard.

Classification by Construction Method

Heat exchangers are classified according to their construction method as follows:

1. Fin pack with collar and tube type, and
2. Micro channel tube with continuous fin type.

Any variety of heat exchangers from each classification must be tested to cover the entire range of that classification's variety. The tube must be made of copper or aluminium and must meet the relevant standards outlined in IS 11329:2018. Aluminium tube material must comply with IS 737, and copper tube material shall conform to IS 10773.

The fin must be made of aluminium and must meet the relevant Standards. Visible surfaces must be clean and free of porosity, inclusion, incident points, scratches, scrapes, and other imperfections. The heat exchanger inlet and outlet tube end must be sealed with rubber grommets or plugs to prevent dust or liquid from entering the tubes.

TESTS

The following test shall be carried out for finned type heat exchanger.

• Construction test
• Internal Contamination
• Leak test
• Burst test
• Fatigue strength test
• Corrosion Resistance test

Each finned type heat exchanger for room air conditioners must mark with the information as specified in the standard. The Standard Mark (ISI Mark) may also be applied to each finned type heat exchanger for room air conditioners.

Conforming to the requirements of this standard, the product may be certified under the provisions of the Bureau of Indian Standards Act, 2016 and the Rules and Regulations framed thereunder, and the product(s) may be marked with the Standard Mark (ISI Mark). The Manufacturer must obtain a BIS license from the Bureau of Indian Standards to use a standard mark (ISI Mark). The BIS grants a license based on a successful assessment of manufacturing infrastructure, quality control, testing capabilities, and production process.

Conclusion:

If a product falls under the scope of the BIS Conformity Assessment Scheme, All the manufacturers, importers, and foreign entities must obtain BIS ISI Certification. The Bureau may cancel the License if the product fails to meet certification requirements.
