BIS CERTIFICATION FOR HALF ROUND MILD STEEL WIRE
IS 8563:1977

This standard specifies the requirements for half round mild steel wire used in the manufacture of split pins.

Round wire is rolled or drawn into a half round wire, or a combination of the two processes, for fabrication into split pins. An annealing treatment is required either during the production of the round wire or at an intermediate stage of rolling or drawing the round wire into the half round wire, in order for the split pins to be ductile.

The wire must be drawn from mild steel produced through the open hearth, electric, duplex, basic oxygen, or a combination of these processes. The chemical composition must adhere to the specified standard.

The nominal sizes of these wires refer to the diameter of the hole intended for a given size of a split pin. The sizes and dimensions of half round steel wire must be as specified in the standard. All finished wires must be well and cleanly drawn to the specified dimensions. The wire must be free of splits, surface flaws, rough/jagged and imperfect edges, and other potentially harmful surface defects.

The following test shall be carried out as per standard.

• Tensile test
• Wrapping test
• Bend test

Each coil of wire must be legibly marked with the finish, wire size, lot number, and trade mark or manufacturer's name. A standard mark (ISI Mark) may also be applied to the material.

The Manufacturer must obtain a BIS license from the Bureau of Indian Standards to use a standard mark (ISI Mark). The Bureau grants a license based on a successful assessment of manufacturing infrastructure, production process, and quality control and testing capabilities during a visit to its manufacturing premises.

Conclusion:

If a product falls under the scope of the BIS Conformity Assessment Scheme, All the manufacturers, importers, and foreign entities must obtain BIS ISI Certification. The Bureau may cancel the License if the product fails to meet certification requirements.
