BIS CERTIFICATION FOR HOT ROLLED STEEL PLATES
IS 9442:1980

This standard specifies the steel requirements for manufacturing steel pots for holding molten zinc for the hot-dip galvanizing process. This steel must be guaranteed weldable because the pots are fabricated by welding.

This standard specifies the requirements for hot rolled steel plates, sheets, and strips used in the production of agricultural tillage discs.

Hot rolled steel plates, sheets, and strips shall be classified into three grades: 1, 2, and 3.

Steel plates, sheets, and strips must be made from steel produced through the open hearth, electric, duplex, basic oxygen, or a combination of these processes. Steel must be supplied in a killed state. IS 8910:1978 specifies the general requirements for the supply of hot rolled steel plates, sheets, and strips.

The finished material must be reasonably smooth and flat, and free of harmful defects such as rolled in scale, blisters, laminations, and pitting. The sheet must be of fine grain, with a grain size number ranging from 5 to 8. Steel plates, sheets, and strips must have a hardness of not more than 220HB.

Steel plates, sheets, and strips must conform to the dimensions specified in the standard.

Marking:

Plates, sheets, and strips must be supplied in bundles or coils. Each bundle or coil must have a metal tag with the cast number, material grade, and manufacturer's name or trade mark. The IS1 Certification Mark may also be applied to the material. The Manufacturer must obtain a BIS license from the Bureau of Indian Standards to use a standard mark (ISI Mark). The Bureau grants a license based on a successful assessment of manufacturing infrastructure, production process, and quality control and testing capabilities during a visit to its manufacturing premises.

Conclusion:

If a product falls under the scope of the BIS Conformity Assessment Scheme, All the manufacturers, importers, and foreign entities must obtain BIS ISI Certification. The Bureau may cancel the License if the product fails to meet certification requirements.
