BIS CERTIFICATION FOR HOUSEHOLD ZIGZAG SEWING MACHINE HEAD
IS 15449(PART 1):2004

In this competitive scenario, it isn't easy to survive in the market without a standard quality and certified product. BIS license may also be required to sell products in the Indian market.

To get BIS certification and produce a standard quality product, the manufacturer must ensure that their product must follow the specified Indian standard.
Let's take a closer look at IS 15449(Part 1):2004 for sewing machine.

This standard specifies the general requirements for zigzag sewing machine heads used in households. The Bureau of Indian Standards adopted this Indian Standard after the Light Mechanical Engineering Division Council approved the draught finalized by the Sewing Machines Sectional Committee.

This standard has been created to standardize the open-type shuttle race fitting and functioning with other sewing machine mating components. Sewing machines must be single, twin, or both needle designs, with a sewing mechanism capable of producing a two-thread lock stitch.

Sewing machines must have a mechanism that allows the feed dog's feeding action to reverse backtrack stitching. The stitch regulator must control the feeding direction, which must be changeable while the machine is running. Each machine must have a thread tension arrangement for both upper and lower threads that is adjustable to the amount of tension required to achieve satisfactory stitches.

Tests

  • Accuracy requirement: The zigzag sewing machine head must meet the accuracy requirements specified in IS 15449 (Part 2).
  • Sewing requirements: The zigzag sewing machine head must meet the sewing requirements specified in IS 15449 (Part 3).
  • Durability requirements: The zigzag sewing machine head must meet the IS 15449 durability requirements (Part 4).

Each sewing machine must be identified by a name plate or screen print that includes the model name, manufacturer's name, or trademark.

The zigzag sewing machine head may also be marked with the standard mark (ISI Mark). The Manufacturer must obtain a BIS license from the Bureau of Indian Standards to use a standard mark (ISI Mark). The Bureau grants a license based on a successful assessment of manufacturing infrastructure, production process, and quality control and testing capabilities during a visit to its manufacturing premises.
