BIS CERTIFICATION FOR METHANOL (METHYL ALCOHOL)
IS 517:2020
In this competitive scenario, it isn't easy to survive in the market without a standard quality and certified product. BIS license may also be required to sell products in the Indian market.
To get BIS certification and produce a standard quality product, the manufacturer must ensure that their product must follow the specified Indian standard.
Let's take a closer look at IS 517:2020 for Methanol (Methyl Alcohol).
IS 517:2020 covers Methanol (Methyl Alcohol). This standard specifies the requirements and sampling and testing method for methanol (methyl alcohol).
The material shall be classified into the following grades:
- Methanol, Pure (not meant for manufacture of antibiotics)
- Methanol, Technical
- Methanol, Pure for the manufacture of antibiotics
The material must be a clear and colorless liquid free from matter in suspension. The material must also meet the requirements of the standard. A laboratory shall be adequately maintained, in which the various tests shall be carried out according to the methods specified in the standard.
TESTS
The following tests shall be carried out for methanol in accordance with the method specified in the standard.
- Description
- Miscibility with water
- Relative density
- Distillation Range
- Residue on evaporation
- Alkalinity % by mass
- Acidity
- Water content
- Chlorine and chlorine compounds
Packing and Marking:
Packing and marking must be done in accordance with the standard. The Standard Mark (ISI Mark) shall be printed on each container and on the label applied to the container, provided that the material in each container on which this Mark is thus applied satisfies all of the specification's requirements. The Manufacturer must obtain a BIS license from the Bureau of Indian Standards to use a standard mark (ISI Mark). The BIS grants a license based on a successful assessment of manufacturing infrastructure, quality control, testing capabilities, and production process.
