BIS CERTIFICATION FOR METHYL ACRYLATE
IS 14707:1999

IS 14707:1999 covers Methyl Acrylate. The Bureau of Indian Standards adopted this Indian Standard after the Petroleum, Coal, and Related Products Division Council approved the draft finalized by the Organic Chemicals Sectional Committee.

This standard specifies the requirements and the sampling and testing methods for methyl acrylate. The methyl acrylate must meet the requirements specified in the standard. Methyl acrylate is made by esterification of acrylic acid or acrylonitrile. It is widely used in the production of various polymeric resins and fibres. It is used to make polymethyl methacrylate, which is used to make leather binders. It is used in water treatment chemicals for purification, and it is also found in ion-exchange resins.

Test shall be carried out in accordance with the method prescribed in the standard.

Packing and Marking:

The following information must be legibly marked on the material:

1. The name of the material
2. The indication of the source of manufacture
3. Batch number, in code
4. The net mass of the material

Packing shall be done in accordance with the terms agreed upon between the purchaser and the supplier. The Standard Mark (ISI Mark) may also be applied to the containers. Conforming to the requirements of this standard, the product(s) may be certified under the provisions of the Bureau of Indian Standards Act, 2016 and the Rules and Regulations framed thereunder. The Manufacturer must obtain a BIS license from the Bureau of Indian Standards to use a standard mark (ISI Mark). The BIS grants a license based on a successful assessment of manufacturing infrastructure, quality control, testing capabilities, and production process.
