BIS CERTIFICATION FOR MILD STEEL WIRE FOR COTTER PINS

In this competitive scenario, it isn't easy to survive in the market without a standard quality and certified product. BIS license may also be required to sell products in the Indian market.

To get BIS certification and produce a standard quality product, the manufacturer must ensure that their product must follow the specified Indian standard.

Let's take a closer look at IS 10794:1984 for Mild steel wire for cotter pins.

This standard specifies the requirements for half-round mild steel wire in diameters ranging from 0.4 to 20 mm for cotter pins. Cotter pins are commonly used to lock nuts in a circular motion.

The method of manufacture shall be left to the manufacturer's discretion unless otherwise agreed upon at the time of ordering.

Steel must be supplied in either killed or semi-killed form. The chemical composition of the wire must conform to the standards, and wire shapes, sizes, and tolerances shall be in accordance with the standard.

The general requirements for the supply of mild steel wire for cotter pins shall be as specified in the standard. The wire must be supplied in a self-coloured finish. All finished wires must be clearly drawn or rolled to the specified dimensions. The finished wire must be free of scales, splits, surface flaws, roughness, and other harmful defects.

Tests shall be carried out in accordance with the method prescribed.

  • Bend test

Packing and Marking:

Each coil of wire must be suitably bound and compactly fastened. Each coil of wire must be labelled with the wire size, lot number, and manufacturer's name or trade mark. The standard mark (ISI Mark) may also be applied to the material.

The Manufacturer must obtain a BIS license from the Bureau of Indian Standards to use a standard mark (ISI Mark). The Bureau grants a license based on a successful assessment of manufacturing infrastructure, production process, and quality control and testing capabilities during a visit to its manufacturing premises.
