BIS CERTIFICATION FOR MILD STEEL WIRE ROD

In this competitive scenario, it isn't easy to survive in the market without a standard quality and certified product. BIS license may also be required to sell products in the Indian market.

To get BIS certification and produce a standard quality product, the manufacturer must ensure that their product must follow the specified Indian standard.

Let's take a closer look at IS 2255:1977 for a Mild steel wire rod for the manufacture of machine screws.

This standard specifies the requirements for mild steel wire rods for the manufacture of wires that comply with IS 1673:1973 used in the manufacture of machine screws or threaded fasteners.

The general requirements for material supply shall be as specified in IS 1387:1967. Steel for wire rods shall be produced using an open hearth, an electric furnace, basic oxygen, or a combination of these processes. If the basic oxygen process is used to manufacture the steel, the nitrogen content must not exceed 0.007 percent. Steel can be supplied in semi-killed, killed, or rimming conditions, depending on the specifications provided at the time of enquiry and order.

Wire rods must be delivered in either straight lengths or coils. Wire rods must be delivered in a rolled or annealed state of nominal size as specified by the purchaser. The finished material must be free of surface defects and internal flaws that would be detrimental to the material's end-use.

Packing and marking:

Packing and marking shall be done as per IS 2255:1977. Each coil or bundle of wire must be compactly bound or fastened. Each coil or bundle of wire rods must be marked with the size of the wire rod, the mass of the coil or bundle, the date of manufacture, and the manufacturer's trade-mark or name. Standard Mark (ISI Mark) may also be applied to the material.

Manufacturers must obtain a BIS license from the Bureau of Indian Standards to use a standard mark (ISI Mark). The Bureau grants a license based on a successful assessment of manufacturing infrastructure, production process, and quality control and testing capabilities during a visit to its manufacturing premises.

Conclusion:

If a product falls under the scope of the BIS Conformity Assessment Scheme, All the manufacturers, importers, and foreign entities must obtain BIS ISI Certification. The Bureau may cancel the License if the product fails to meet certification requirements.
