BIS CERTIFICATION FOR NON MAGNETIC STAINLESS STEELS
IS 10632 (PART 2):1983

In this competitive scenario, it isn't easy to survive in the market without a standard quality and certified product. BIS license may also be required to sell products in the Indian market.

To get BIS certification and produce a standard quality product, the manufacturer must ensure that their product must follow the specified Indian standard.

Let’s take a closer look at IS 10632 (Part 2): 1983 Non-Magnetic stainless steels for electrical applications.

This standard specifies the requirements for chemical composition, electrical, mechanical and magnetic properties of nonmagnetic stainless steel tinned round wires and flattended wires for armatures and rotors binding. The general requirements for manufacture, tests, sampling, freedom from defects, packing and marking shall conform to those given in IS 10632(Part 1):1983. The surface of the wire before and after tin coating must be smooth and free of undulations, flaws, and cracks.

TESTS

Tests shall be carried out in accordance with the method specified in the standard.

  • Tensile test
  • Reverse bend test
  • Wrapping test
  • Electrical Resistivity
  • Magnetic property
  • Coating test

Marking

Marking shall be done as per IS 10632(Part 1):1983. The standard mark (ISI Mark) may also be applied to the material. The manufacturer must obtain a BIS license for non-magnetic stainless steel for electrical application from the Bureau of Indian Standards to use a standard mark (ISI Mark). BIS will grant a license after successfully assessing manufacturing infrastructure, processes, quality control, and testing capabilities during a visit to manufacturing premises.
