BIS CERTIFICATION FOR PHOSPHORUS TRICHLORIDE
IS 4581:2021

In this competitive scenario, it isn't easy to survive in the market without a standard quality and certified product. BIS license may also be required to sell products in the Indian market.

To get BIS certification and produce a standard quality product, the manufacturer must ensure that their product must follow the specified Indian standard.

Let’s take a closer look at IS 4581:2021 for Phosphorus Trichloride, Pure and Analytical Reagent.

IS 4581:2021 covers Phosphorus Trichloride, Pure and Analytical Reagent. This standard specifies the requirements and the sampling and testing methods for phosphorus trichloride, pure and analytical reagent. Phosphorus trichloride is used to produce synthetic organic chemicals, specifically to replace the hydroxyl group with chlorine. It is also used in the production of saccharin and as a chlorinating agent.

Grades:

The material shall be classified into two grades as follows:

  1. Grade 1: Analytical Reagent
  2. Grade 2: Pure

The material must be a clear, colourless to light yellow, fuming liquid. It is soluble in most organic solvents, including ether, benzene, carbon disulphide, and carbon tetrachloride, are soluble in it. When tested in accordance with the method prescribed, the material must also meet the standard's requirements.

TESTS

The following test shall be done in accordance with the method specified.

  • Test for Phosphorus trichloride %
  • Boiling range test
  • Relative density test
  • Evaporation residue
  • Test for Sulphate
  • Test for Heavy metals
  • Test for Iron

Packing and Marking:

Packing and Marking shall be done in accordance with IS 4581:2021. The material must be packed in lead-coated steel containers or glass bottles. The containers must be labelled with the name and grade of material, the manufacturer's name and recognized trade-mark, the net mass, and the batch number.

The ISI Certification Mark must be applied to each container, provided that the product so marked meets all of the specification's requirements.
