On 6th March 2024, the Ministry of Commerce and Industry (Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade) issued a Quality Control Order (QCO) mandating that plugs and socket-outlets rated up to 250 volts and 16 amperes must adhere to Indian Standard IS 1293:2005. This standard specifies the essential safety and performance requirements for these electrical components, ensuring they provide reliable and secure connections.
