BIS CERTIFICATION FOR PVC SANDAL
IS 6721:1972

The standard applies to the following two types of sandals:

• Type 1: One part sandals
• Type 2: Two-part sandals

The PVC sandals shall be made of a basic material that meets the physical requirements specified in the standard. The sandals' design shall be agreed upon between the purchaser and the supplier. The last's dimensions must be in accordance with IS 1638:1960.

Type 1 PVC sandals must be manufactured in a single piece using injection moulding. Type 2 sandals must be manufactured in two parts using injection moulding, and the two parts will then assemble. The PVC sandals must be manufactured in such a way that they are free of shrinkage, burning, wrapping, and cold flow marks.

Tests

The following test shall be carried out for PVC sandals.

• Relative density test
• Hardness test
• Tensile strength test
• Elongation test
• Tear strength test
• Volatility test
• Test for lead

A laboratory shall be adequately maintained, in which the various tests shall be carried out according to the methods specified in the standard.

The sole of each sandal shall be marked with size, and the manufacturer's name or his trademark, if any. The sandal may also be marked with the ISI certification mark, and packaging and marking must be done in accordance with the standards. The Manufacturer must obtain a BIS license from the Bureau of Indian Standards to use a standard mark (ISI Mark). The BIS grants a license based on a successful assessment of manufacturing infrastructure, quality control and testing capabilities, and production process.

Conclusion:

If a product falls under the scope of the BIS Conformity Assessment Scheme, All the manufacturers, importers, and foreign entities must obtain BIS ISI Certification. The Bureau may cancel the License if the product fails to meet certification requirements.
