BIS CERTIFICATION FOR RICE BRAN FATTY ACIDS

In this competitive scenario, it isn't easy to survive in the market without a standard quality and certified product. BIS license may also be required to sell products in the Indian market.

As per the Rice Bran Fatty Acids (Quality Control) Order, 2022, the Bureau of Indian Standards has made it mandatory to obtain BIS certification for Rice Bran Fatty Acids. Rice Bran Fatty Acids shall conform to IS 12068:1987 and shall bear the Standard Mark (ISI Mark) under a license from the Bureau of Indian Standards as per Scheme-I of Schedule-II of the Bureau of Indian Standards (Conformity Assessment) Regulations 2018.

To get a BIS certificate for Rice Bran Fatty Acids, the manufacturer must ensure that Rice Bran Fatty Acids conform to applicable Indian standards.

This standard specifies the requirements and the sampling and testing method for Rice Bran Fatty Acids.

The material must be of distilled grade. The material shall be produced by distilling crude rice bran fatty acids derived from splitting rice bran oil extracted from the layer around the endosperm of rice. A minimum flash point is required if a solvent is used to produce oil or fatty acid.

The material shall be free from sediments, adulterants, suspended and other foreign matter, and separated water. On melting, the distilled grade should be clear. The material must also meet the requirements given in the standard.

The following tests shall be carried out in accordance with the method specified in the standard.

  • Test for free mineral acidity
  • Determination of ash

Packing and marking

Packing and marking shall be done as per IS 12068:1987. The material must be packed in appropriate containers. The containers must be securely closed and marked with the name and grade of the material, net mass, batch number or lot number, month and year of manufacture, and the manufacturer's name and trade mark. The container may also be marked with a standard mark (ISI Mark).

The manufacturer must obtain a BIS license for Rice Bran Fatty Acids from the Bureau of Indian Standards to use a standard mark (ISI Mark). BIS will grant a license after successfully assessing manufacturing infrastructure, processes, quality control, and testing capabilities during a visit to manufacturing premises.
