BIS CERTIFICATION FOR SAFETY RUBBER CANVAS BOOTS FOR MINERS

This standard specifies the requirements and methods for sampling and testing for safety rubber canvas boots with a protective steel toe cap at the toe for the industrial protection of mine workers. This standard applies to two types of industrial safety boots, type 1 and type 2, based on the performance requirements specified in the standard.

The following two types of Safety Rubber Canvas Boots for Miners have been covered:

Type 1: Boots are preferred in mining situations where there is water accumulation or slurry. The water level in slurry conditions shall not exceed ankle height.

Type 2: Boots are preferred for use in dry mining conditions

Safety rubber canvas boots for miners must be made from materials that meet the requirements laid out in IS 3976:2018. This standard specifies the material and thickness requirements for various components, and the design of type 1 and type 2 boots must adhere to the standards.

The various tests must be performed in a properly equipped and staffed laboratory in accordance with the procedures specified in the standard. If the Applicant/Licensee applies for both types, testing must be done separately for each type.

TESTS:

The following tests must be carried out in accordance with the standard.

  • Water Vapour Permeability test,
  • Consolidation Test,
  • Tear Strength test,
  • Breaking Strength test
  • Resistance to Hot Contact of Sole Heel
  • Abrasion Resistance test
  • Flexing Test
  • Absorption Test
  • Impact Test

The boots shall be marked with size, Month and year of manufacture, and Trademark details as per specified standard. Standard Mark (ISI Mark) may also be applied to the product. The Manufacturer must obtain a BIS license from the Bureau of Indian Standards to use a standard mark (ISI Mark). The Bureau grants a license based on a successful assessment of manufacturing infrastructure, production process, and quality control and testing capabilities during a visit to its manufacturing premises.
