BIS CERTIFICATION FOR SKIMMED MILK POWDER (STANDARD GRADE)

IS 13334 (Part 1): 2014 covers Skimmed milk powder Part 1 standard grade. This standard (Part 1) specifies the requirements, sampling methods, and tests for standard-grade skimmed milk powder.

Skim Milk Powder (SMP), also known as Non-fat Dry Milk, is manufactured by removing the fat and water from milk and containing the same quantities of Lactose, Milk Proteins, and Milk Minerals as the fresh milk from which it was made. Skimmed milk powder is commonly utilized in food production, and humanitarian organizations frequently include it in famine relief shipments.

This product is obtained from skimmed milk of cow or buffalo, or a combination of the two, by removing water via spray drying or roller drying. The colour of the product must be white or white with a greenish tinge to light cream. The product must be free of extraneous matter, colour, and flavouring.

Calcium chloride, citric acid, sodium citrate, and sodium salts of orthophosphoric acid and polyphosphoric acid (as linear phosphate) may be added to the finished product in amounts not exceeding 0.3 percent by mass. The product's or reconstituted milk's flavour must be pleasant and clean, and the product must be manufactured and packed in hygienic condition.

The product must also meet the requirements specified in the standard. Packing and marking shall be done in accordance with the standard, and the package shall mark with the information as given under clause 6.2 of IS 13334 (Part 1). The Standard Mark (ISI Mark) may also be applied to the product. The manufacturer must obtain a BIS license from the Bureau of Indian Standards to use a standard mark (ISI Mark). The Bureau grants a license based on a successful assessment of a manufacturer's manufacturing infrastructure, production process, and quality control and testing capabilities during a visit to its manufacturing premises.

If a product falls under the scope of the BIS Conformity Assessment Scheme, All the manufacturers, importers, and foreign entities must obtain BIS ISI Certification. The Bureau may cancel the License if the product fails to meet certification requirements.
