BIS CERTIFICATION FOR STAINLESS STEEL BARS & FLATS
In this competitive scenario, it isn't easy to survive in the market without a standard quality and certified product. BIS license may also be required to sell products in the Indian market.
To get BIS certification and produce a standard quality product, the manufacturer must ensure that their product must follow the specified Indian standard.
Let's take a closer look at IS 6603:2001 for stainless steel bars and flats.
This standard specifies the requirements for non-precipitation hardening wrought stainless steel bars and flats for applications requiring corrosion resistance at room temperature and normal pressure.
The general requirements for material supply shall be in accordance with IS 8910. Unless otherwise agreed, the processes used in the manufacture of the steel and the product are left to the manufacturer's discretion. Bars and flats shall be manufactured from ingots or continuously cast slabs/blooms by rolling, hammering, pressing, or extrusion. Bars and lids must be free of harmful internal and surface defects. Steel can be annealed, hardened, tempered, or supplied in a softened state.
The following test shall be carried out in accordance with the method specified.
- Tensile Test
- Bend test
- Hardness test
- Impact test
- Dimension and dimensional tolerances
- Corrosion resistance
Marking shall be done in accordance with IS 6603:2001. The Standard Mark (ISI Mark) may also be applied to the material. The Manufacturer must obtain a BIS license from the Bureau of Indian Standards to use a standard mark (ISI Mark). The Bureau grants a license based on a successful assessment of manufacturing infrastructure, production process, and quality control and testing capabilities during a visit to its manufacturing premises.
