BIS CERTIFICATION FOR STEEL FOR INTERNAL COMBUSTION ENGINES VALVES
IS 7494:1981

In this competitive scenario, it isn't easy to survive in the market without a standard quality and certified product. BIS license may also be required to sell products in the Indian market.

To get BIS certification and produce a standard quality product, the manufacturer must ensure that their product must follow the specified Indian standard.

Let's take a closer look at IS 7494:1981 for steel for valves for internal combustion engines.

General requirements for material supply must be in accordance with the specified standard. Unless otherwise specified in the order, the processes used to manufacture the steel are at the discretion of the manufacturer. The material must be free of potentially harmful internal and surface flaws. Steel shall be supplied in any heat treatment or surface machining condition agreed upon between the purchaser and the manufacturer. The chemical composition must adhere to the standards specified.

Tests

Tests shall be carried out in accordance with the specified standard.

  • Dimensional tolerances
  • Elevated temperature properties
  • Chemical composition
  • Hardness
  • Inclusion rating
  • Tensile test

Packing & Marking:

Packing and marking must be done in accordance with IS 7494:1981. Steel bars must be properly bundled. Each bundle must have a metal tag with the following information attached:

  • Name and trademark of the manufacturer,
  • Steel grade, and
